Gut Health and Entrepreneurship: How Chronic Stress and Perfectionism Show Up in the Body

Somewhere along the way, being a ‘high-achiever’ became part of your identity. You eat “pretty healthy,” move your body, keep the business running, but still feel bloated, drained, and strangely disconnected from yourself. It’s not all in your head, but it is in your gut.

Jackie Wright, DND Wellness Co.

Chronic stress and perfectionism can quietly throw your digestive system out of balance. When your body is under constant pressure, your nervous system shifts into a ‘fight or flight’ state, shutting down your ability to properly ‘rest and digest.’

This disrupts the production of stomach acid and digestive enzymes, making it harder to break down food and absorb nutrients. Over time, this can create a cascade of symptoms such as:

  • Bloating

  • Cravings

  • Fatigue

  • Acid reflux

  • Immune suppression

Not because you’re doing something wrong, but because your body is adapting to survive under stress.

I know what it feels like to assume I wasn’t disciplined enough. To wonder if I was eating the

wrong things, or if there was simply something wrong with me. Once I understood that my

mindset and stress were at the root of it all, it helped me to stop blaming my body and start

listening to it. This shift allowed me to build a deeper connection with myself, seeing my body as more than just a tool.

Your health is not separate from your business success, it’s part of who you are and how you

show up every day. Bloating, cravings, and fatigue are your body's way of communicating with you, asking for something different. You’re already one of the most disciplined people you know.

What you need now is curiosity. Compassion. A gentler, wiser way forward.

When you tend to the relationship with your body, you create space for more clarity, more stable energy, and more ease in your business. When you show up for yourself first, you show up for everything else with more energy, clarity, and inner-calm.

One small practice you can try today, before your next meal:

  1. Pause and place your hands on your belly,

  2. Close your eyes, and

  3. Take three deep, slow breaths.

It might not seem like much, but it shifts your nervous system, and your digestion follows.

If you’re craving a more sustainable rhythm, one where you don’t have to choose between

success and self, you’re not alone. My Inner Circle weekly email newsletter is a space to reconnect with your body, support your nervous system, and receive the kind of support that

actually fuels your business.
